Reference librarians bring resources for success to students
By the end of the semester, most students will have at least one research paper due, but many students struggle with identifying the most valuable and valid information to inform their writing.
In an effort to reach out to students where they live, a group of reference librarians went “on tour” on Wednesday, Nov. 30, and set up an information station in the Harrington Engagement Center in the Harrington Commons.
“We know the tools, we know the resources, and we can get students to them as quickly as possible and save them time and get them to the end goal,” said reference librarian Sarah Katz. “Which is success on their research papers.”
Students were invited to spin the question wheel, to ask for direction for their research and to learn about the tools available to them at no fee thanks to the resources provided by the University of Delaware Library.
"We are really excited to partner with the library to showcase what is available to students working on research,” said Adam Helgeson, student engagement coordinator, Residence Life and Housing. “Our goal with the engagement centers is to connect students to resources on campus that have been shown to have a positive impact on their experience. The reference librarians are an invaluable asset to students and there is a lot of value in providing exposure there.”
Prizes, cookies and UDairy Creamery gift coupons were incentives for students to stop by as they went about their day.
