Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

USFS totaled 137 points, with Boston earning 128 for second place and Dartmouth in third with 109 points.

UD senior Jessica Sugarman described the team’s first competition of the season, saying, “What I loved was how supportive everyone was for their fellow teammates. The UD cheering section is most definitely the loudest, and encouraged me to persevere during my routines.”

UDFS President Beth Kalbach spoke about the Cornell competition, as well. “The first competition of the season always comes with the variables of competing with a new team, and against new freshmen from other schools,” she said. “I was incredibly pleased with how well all of our members skated throughout the weekend, but I was especially proud of our new members who handled the pressure exceptionally well and played a large role in team morale throughout the competition.”

Freshman Aubrie Roszell was excited for her first colligate competition, saying, “Cornell was different from other competitions and I could feel the support from all my teammates which pushed me to compete to the best of my ability.”

Vice President Hannah Kimberly spoke of how close the final point totals were in this competition compared to others and how this will drive UDFS to work even harder this season. “BU and Dartmouth have both gotten much stronger and I feel that how close this competition was will push us more as we prepare for the rest of our season,” she said.

The intercollegiate figure skating season continues Feb. 27-28 when UDFS will travel to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete.
