Monica Taylor Lotty named executive vice president, chief development officer at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
Monica Taylor Lotty, vice president for development and alumni relations at the University of Delaware, has been named the new executive vice president and chief development officer (CDO) for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), following an extensive national search.
She will assume her new duties there this fall.
In making the announcement, Madeline Bell, CHOP’s president and chief executive officer, said, “The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, as a not-for-profit institution, depends greatly on the generosity of our donors to be able to continue the good work that we do for children and their families. Monica brings extensive experience to this important position, and I am very pleased that she has agreed to dedicate herself to helping CHOP achieve its mission.”
University of Delaware President Dennis Assanis said, ”I know the entire University of Delaware community will join me in congratulating Monica on this appointment. Her excellent leadership over the past nine years has benefited this University across the board, touching all aspects of our campus, from student scholarships to faculty hiring to physical plant improvements. We wish her all the best in her new endeavor.”

Interim vice president
Assanis has announced that Beth Brand, associate vice president of University Development, will serve as the interim vice president while a national search is conducted for Taylor Lotty's successor.
Brand, a UD alumna, has been part of the University's development office since 2007. Currently, she is responsible for the Development operation, including Colleges and Programs (major gifts); Principal Gifts and Gift Planning; Athletics; Parent and Family Giving; Corporate and Foundation Relations; and Prospect Management and Research.
Before joining the UD staff, she spent 11 years in development at the University of Pennsylvania, first in Penn Law and then with the Wharton School.

With extensive fundraising experience, including developing, leading and executing the strategic vision for several comprehensive campaigns, Taylor Lotty has served as vice president of development and alumni relations at the University of Delaware since 2007. At UD, she led the University’s fundraising efforts and advancement operation that raised more than $500 million over her nine-year tenure.
Under her leadership, the University’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations expanded its scope and raised funds to advance the University’s strategic priorities, including scholarships for students, support for new faculty positions and new campus facilities, such as the Harker Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory and funding for critical University programs. Other accomplishments included enhancing alumni engagement with the creation of the annual Alumni Weekend and reunion programs; expanding the circulation of the Messenger magazine to all alumni; and developing strategic events and activities to recognize the University’s most loyal alumni and donors for their support of and leadership for the institution.
Previously, Taylor Lotty served as executive director of external affairs at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. In this role, she managed the direction and strategy for Wharton’s development and alumni relations operations, oversaw the public and wrap-up phases of Wharton’s Campaign for Sustained Leadership and supervised alumni relations programming for 81,000 alumni worldwide including 80 national and international alumni clubs.
Her prior work experience includes development and management positions at the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, the United States Olympic Committee and Georgetown University. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and has been a presenter and faculty member at several CASE conferences. She serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Artisans’ Bank in Wilmington, Delaware.
She has a law degree from the James E. Beasley School of Law at Temple University and an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and is a native of the Philadelphia area.
