The free program, which is sponsored by the Delaware Medical Reserve Corps (DMRC) and the Delaware Division of Public Health in partnership with UD’s College of Health Sciences, will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays in Room 130 of the General Services Building, 222 S. Chapel St., in Newark.
Events Stories
June 5: Blue Hen 5K
June 6-9: Food and culture series
Designed for people with Type 2 diabetes, the program will help participants prevent and/or delay health complications, improve hemaglobin A1C (average blood sugar reading), make better food choices and lose weight, better control glucose levels through exercise and stress management and communicate better with health care providers.
“The program is effective because of the way it is taught,” says Don Post, administrator of the Delaware Diabetes and Heart Disease Prevention and Control Program. “Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.”
To register, contact Kirsten Morris of the DMRC at 302-831-6136.
A flyer about the program is available and for additional information, see the Division of Public Health website.
