12:14 p.m., Aug. 5, 2015--The Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) will host its first research symposium for graduate students on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The symposium will take place from 3-7 p.m. in the Harker Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory and will include both oral presentations and a poster session. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top presenters in each category.

Research Stories

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

“We wanted to give graduate students in environmental fields an opportunity to get out of their labs, connect with students from other disciplines, and learn more about each other’s work,” said DENIN Director Don Sparks.

He noted that the symposium also provides an opportunity for students to polish their presentations and posters for the many professional meetings held during the fall semester.

“Grad students planning to present a talk or poster at a fall conference should take advantage of this opportunity to give their presentation a trial run,” he said.

Anyone may attend the symposium, but participation as a presenter is limited to graduate students of DENIN’s 180 faculty affiliates and Council of Fellows members. Students who are unsure of their adviser’s status can check the listings on DENIN’s website.

Registration for presenters is open through Monday, Aug. 31. Presenters should be prepared with the title and abstract for their presentation before registering. Those who wish to attend the symposium as a guest may register using the same online form through September 30.
