Symposium to discuss Delaware survey data for LGBQ youth
11:43 a.m., April 22, 2016--Scholars with the University of Delaware’s Center for Drug and Health Studies will discuss research from a national survey on young people and high-risk behavior at a symposium from 2:30-3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, in 320 Gore Hall on UD’s Newark campus.
The symposium, “Psychosocial Challenges Experienced by Delaware LGBQ Youth: Data from the 2016 Youth Risk Behavior Survey,” is free and open to the public. Scholars will present the most recent Delaware data from the Centers for Disease Control Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

Research indicates that young people who identify as LGBQ are at disproportionate risk for a number of psychosocial issues, including self-harm and suicide, poorer attendance at school due to feeling unsafe, substance abuse and smoking.
Robert Martz of the United Way of Delaware will also speak, highlighting community-based supports available for LGBQ youth.
