10:31 a.m., April 20, 2016--University Museums at the University of Delaware invites visitors to meet the students of UDocent at a pair of upcoming events, scheduled April 27 and May 18.

UDocent is a volunteer program for students interested in developing and implementing programs and events, and learning to lead tours at University Museums.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Through training, practice and peer evaluation, UDocent volunteers acquire and improve public speaking and leadership skills, serve as friendly ambassadors in University Museums galleries, gain exposure to a wide selection of objects, and have a lot of fun discovering what makes the art and minerals on display each semester relevant to themselves and visitors.

UDocent: Night at University Museums will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, at the Mechanical Hall Gallery. Visitors can enjoy

informal UDocent student-led tours and discussions of works in the current exhibition Blue&Black: African Rainbow, which is open through May 15.

Visitors should come prepared to enjoy themselves and share ideas about the objects on display.

The April 27 UDocent-led discussion topic will be “Favorite Artist Art, and visitors are invited to bring a portrait or other visual representation of their favorite artist in any genre to share and discuss. Be prepared to share ideas about selected images, as well as the artists they represent.

Also, visitors are invited to enjoy UDocent-led tours at University Museums’ Reading Day Open House from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, at the Old College Gallery and the Mechanical Hall Gallery.

The evening event offers visitors from UD and the surrounding community an opportunity to take advantage of University Museums’ special day and hours (open until 8 p.m.) and participate in informal discussions, UDocent student-led tours, and other activities in the galleries.

Guests can visit the Old College and Mechanical Hall galleries to see and discuss art from the University collection, meet new people, and enjoy performances and refreshments.

The Spring Reading Day Open House is ideal for students, working adults, members of the local community, or new visitors to learn what University Museums has to offer. Families are welcome.

Admission to all University Museums events is free. Call 302-831-8037 or visit the website for more information on University Museums events and exhibitions.
