Registration open for 2016 Summer Session at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

2:49 p.m., April 21, 2016--Registration is now open for the 2016 Summer Session at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Wilmington, located in Arsht Hall, 2700 Pennsylvania Ave. The noncredit summer classes meet weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from July 5-28.

Two brand new and timely offerings include Legacy of Justice Scalia, taught by noted constitutional scholar Mary Brigid McManamon of Widener University’s Delaware Law School, and Cycling: Come Back to the Bike, with Paul Hess, a certified bicycle safety instructor.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Nearly 50 stimulating and educational courses range in topic from financial management and fine arts to history and literature. A sampling of this summer’s course titles includes:

  • Genetics for Genealogists
  • Science of Delicious Flavors
  • Using Your Digital Camera
  • America: Niebuhr Reflects
  • Republic of Texas: Short History
  • Picking up Portuguese
  • Delaware Wills, Trusts and Probate

Courses are open to adults age 50 and over. The $90 fee for the session covers up to six classes. 

Registrations are being accepted in person, by mail and online. Early registration is available through May 13; registrations received after this date are processed on a space-available basis. Membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning program is not required to register for summer session.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes at the University of Delaware are membership organizations that provide opportunities for adults 50 and over to learn, teach and travel with their peers. There are no academic requirements for admission. The only requirements are interest in a continuing educational experience, support of the programs through participation, and the modest membership fee.
