Blue Hens invited to participate in second annual I Heart UD Day

8:44 a.m., April 27, 2016--Blue Hens are invited to participate in the second annual I Heart UD Day on Wednesday, May 11. The event includes giveaways, food and fun on The Green from 11 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

I Heart UD is a partnership between the University of Delaware Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), UD Student Alumni Ambassadors (UDSAAs) and Communications and Public Affairs (CPA).

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The event provides opportunities for the Blue Hen community to show their UD pride, build class identity and loyalty, and to educate students and alumni on philanthropy and gratitude toward UD.

This year, participants will receive I Heart UD tech tattoos, Jimmy John’s hoagies, cookies from Dining Services and other giveaways, while supplies last. 

As a new addition, the Celebrity Class Cab from this year’s Blue Hen Spirit Day will be available to transport students around campus accompanied by local UD celebrities. Along the way, passengers will be asked trivia questions for the chance to win fun UD-themed prizes.

UDSAA members will be on hand promoting Thanks for Tanks – an event tent where students are encouraged to write “thank you” postcards to first-time UD donors. Students who write one postcard will receive a special treat and those who write four postcards will receive a tank top, while supplies last. 

There will also be opportunities to complete several #UDBucketList items, including eating UDairy Creamery ice cream, having a picnic on The Green, taking a picture with YoUDee, watching a non-football sporting event, eating at a food truck and more. 

Seniors will be given special opportunities to write thank you notes to professors, donate to their Senior Class Gift and sign a “Where Will You Be After UD?” poster and more.

There will be multiple student performances throughout the event by Marielle Kraft, Aaron Tinkleman and other familiar faces. We Are Blue Hens will also be at the event to share information with students about their mission.

Alumni will be encouraged to share on social media why they love UD and to wear Blue and Gold on May 11.

Blue Hens can commemorate their time at the event by taking photos at the photo booth and leaving their mark on their class banners. The hashtags for the day are #BlueHensForever and #UDBucketList.
