Help save energy by following some simple tips
12:09 p.m., Sept. 2, 2014--With the return of summer weather conditions this week, increased electrical power is expected to be in demand throughout the region.
Members of the University of Delaware community are reminded to save power whenever possible.
This afternoon the city of Newark asked all its customers to voluntarily conserve electricity from 3-6 p.m., today, due to high energy demand. PJM Interconnections, the regional transmission operator, is forecasting high peak electric loads this evening. By lowering energy consumption during peak hours, the possibility of an outage is reduced and power costs can be lowered.

Here are some energy saving tips for use at work and home:
• Turn off equipment that is not in use.
• Turn out lights when a room is unoccupied and when you leave for the day.
• Set the thermostat on your air conditioning unit 2-3 percent higher.
• If possible, delay using major electric appliances, such as dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers.
• Postpone the use of hot water.
