Global Stories

Fulbright awards

Three University of Delaware students and an alumna have received word this spring that they will travel abroad as part of the newest class of Fulbright Student Program award winners.

Peace Corps plans

Two University of Delaware students, John McCarron and Bridgette Spritz, have been selected as Peace Corps volunteers and will serve in Ghana and Rwanda.

Mushikiwabo immigrated to the United States in 1986. Two years later, she received a master of arts degree in languages and interpretation, with a focus in French, from UD.

She lived in the U.S. for 22 years, then briefly in Tunisia, before joining the Rwandan Cabinet in March 2008.

Mushikiwabo previously served as the Rwandan minister of information and is a public relations executive, speaker on Rwanda-related issues and an author.

Mushikiwabo co-authored Rwanda Means the Universe, an intergenerational socio-historical memoir, and has contributed to many newspaper and magazine articles.

In 2004, Mushikiwabo became the recipient of the Outstanding Humanitarian Award from American University’s School of International Studies.

This year, UD established relations with Rwanda through the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, and a College of Health Sciences summer nursing program supported by a Global Scholars Award from the Institute for Global Studies.
