Two faculty information sessions will be held in the IGS conference room in Elliott Hall to answer any questions on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., and on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
IGS has worked to provide complete arrangements for each of the locations with options to host a traditional month-long Winter Session program or a UDMicromester.
The UDMicromester is a new, three-week model for UD study abroad programs in which a single faculty director teaches one course focused on a specific theme, and the program is centered primarily in one location. Tentative dates for the ready-made programs are Jan. 9-30 or Jan.3-Feb.3.
These new and exciting programs were developed by IGS to make the first experience directing a study abroad program easy with possibilities and opportunities to tailor the program to a discipline of the faculty member’s choice.
The deadline for applying to one of the four programs is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Interested faculty members are also encouraged to attend the session on developing a study abroad proposal to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., in 325 Alison Hall.
New faculty, new opportunities
Proposals will be reviewed and decisions announced to applicants by Oct. 31. Through this initiative IGS hopes to attract new faculty directors to study abroad while increasing offerings to a broader array of students.
Preference will be given to faculty offering courses in disciplines that are under-represented in study abroad but which are likely to have high student demand, and faculty who have not worked with IGS in the past.
