Speakers, films, festivals highlight Latino Heritage Month at UD
2:21 p.m., Sept. 15, 2014--Latino Heritage Month and Beyond 2014 at the University of Delaware has opened and will continue with activities planned into early November.
The first major event is scheduled this week, with Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist John Quinones of ABC News speaking at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.

Quinones, who was anchor for the critically acclaimed ABC News special Latin Beat, will speak on “A 20/20 View of Hispanic America.” The talk is free and open to the public.
A Latino Student Welcome will be held Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 30, and a Latin Food Festival on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Kellie Jones, associate professor at Columbia University, will speak on “Crisscrossing the World: Los Angeles Artists and the Global Imagination, 1960-1980” on Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Wayne Craven Lecture hosted and organized by UD’s Department of Art History.
Fiesta Latina is scheduled Friday, Oct. 10, and a film screening and discussion about the life of civil rights leader Cesar Chavez will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28.
The Career Services Center will offer a Multi-Ethnic Career Development Conference on Nov. 1 and the Guallando Latin Festival will be held Nov. 7.
