Campus housing tours
Upper division housing tours help first-year students find homes for next school year
11:25 a.m., Sept. 22, 2014--Though the fall semester just began, University of Delaware students are contemplating where they would like to live for the next academic year and Residence Life and Housing will host a walking tour of upper division areas on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Two tour options are available. Students can take the full tour of upper division residence halls, which highlights the historic South Central and North Central on the central Green, suite-style living in Ray Street and Independence Complex and the apartments of the Christiana Towers.

An optional Laird-only tour will begin at Ray Street and end at the Christiana Towers.
At each location, students have volunteered to show off their rooms to help first-year students see the variety in housing options across campus. Professional and student staff in the buildings will be on hand to explain the community spirit of each neighborhood.
Tour guides will lead the tours of 10-15 students each and will be available to answer general questions about living on campus and the application process.
The tours will also kick off the “early bird” housing application period, which will run through Oct. 31.
Students who register for the tours will be eligible to win prizes and free food and drinks will be provided along the tour route.

More about ‘early bird’ and living on campus
“Submitting an early bird application is a great way for students to get priority for next year’s housing selection,” said Kathleen Kerr, executive director of Residence Life and Housing. “There will be limited opportunities for students to earn priority points outside of early bird, so I hope that many take advantage of this one, especially if they know now that they want to be on campus next year.”
By applying for 2015-16 on-campus housing during the early bird application period, students will be credited five priority points, which in turn, means an earlier room selection time slot in the spring.
“National studies show that living on campus leads to higher GPAs, higher degrees of campus involvement, and higher degree completion rates,” said Jim Tweedy, senior associate director of Residence Life and Housing.
