8:32 a.m., Sept. 3, 2014--The University of Delaware Institute for Global Studies (IGS) has announced a new scholarship initiative for freshmen and transfer students called Delaware Diplomats

By participating in events with a global focus on campus, including cultural and international events and activities, students have the opportunity to earn scholarship funds for UD study abroad programs

Global Stories

Fulbright awards

Three University of Delaware students and an alumna have received word this spring that they will travel abroad as part of the newest class of Fulbright Student Program award winners.

Peace Corps plans

Two University of Delaware students, John McCarron and Bridgette Spritz, have been selected as Peace Corps volunteers and will serve in Ghana and Rwanda.

Delaware Diplomats are freshmen and transfer students interested in international exploration, global cultures, education abroad and participating in global events on campus.

By becoming a Delaware Diplomat, students are eligible to accumulate scholarship assistance based on their level of global engagement on campus, in addition to merit or need-based scholarships. Students can earn between $300-$1,500 to be applied to future UD travel study or internship abroad programs.

The application deadline is Monday, Sept. 15, and the application form is available online.

Why join the Delaware Diplomats?

The University’s Path to Prominence Global Initiative calls for students to become global citizens, which requires a sustained effort to connect students with the global community, both on and off campus.

The Delaware Diplomats will build these connections and foster a global worldview. The program aims to improve students’ cross-cultural competencies, a valuable skill in a global economy.

Students interested in freshman-friendly study abroad programs can view a list here. For more information about study abroad programs, visit the website or stop by Elliott Hall for more information.
