Homecoming Banner Competition, Pep Rally announced

8:30 a.m., Sept. 18, 2014--Student groups at the University of Delaware are encouraged to showcase their school spirit this Homecoming season by entering the 2014 Banner Competition. 

Registered student organizations, fraternity and sorority chapters, athletics teams or groups of UD friends are all eligible to compete.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

The winning banner will be announced during the Homecoming Pep Rally at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 17, at the Carpenter Sports Building, also known as the Little Bob.

Students must use the Tyvek banner paper supplied by the Office of Alumni Relations, which can be picked up at the George Evans House next to the Trabant University Center at Main Street and South College Avenue during regular business hours from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

All banners are due to Alumni Relations by 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9, and will be hung in the Trabant University Center throughout Homecoming Week, Oct. 13-18.

Three prizes will be awarded:

  • First place: Winners will take the field during football pregame, get special front row seats in the student section and receive UD merchandise and a $100 gift certificate to Main Street.
  • Second place: $100 gift certificate to Main Street and a framed certificate.
  • Third place: $50 gift certificate to Main Street and a framed certificate.

Banner design criteria include originality and creativity, representation of the group, overall representation of UD, and use of UD colors. Click here for a complete list of rules and additional information.
