Four arrested

Newark Police link suspects to additional armed robberies

1:43 p.m., Sept. 26, 2014--Newark Police have identified the four suspects arrested Sept. 23 after an attempted armed robbery on Orchard Road, and two of them have been charged in connection with additional armed robberies in the city.  

Charged were Shamayah Thomas, 19, of Claymont, Delaware; Vaquan Williams, 24, of Wilmington, Delaware; and two minors.   

In addition to the Sept. 23 robbery, Thomas has been linked to a Sept. 21 robbery on Apple Road, a Sept. 21 robbery on Tyre Avenue and a Sept. 20 robbery on South College Avenue. He has been charged with one count of first degree attempted robbery, four counts of robbery and two counts of second degree conspiracy. He received $258,000 cash bail and was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of bail.

Williams was also linked to the Sept. 21 Tyre Avenue robbery and has been charged with first degree attempted robbery, first degree robbery and two counts of second degree conspiracy. He received $104,000 cash bail and was committed to the Young Correctional Institution in lieu of bail.

Both juveniles were charged in connection with the Sept. 23 robbery, with first degree attempted robbery and second degree conspiracy. Each received $32,500 secured bail and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center.

Police said the investigation in ongoing, and additional charges could be forthcoming.
