Prof. James Magee to discuss "The Constitution: Living or Dead?"

6:31 p.m., Sept. 12, 2014--The University of Delaware community is invited to a talk by James Magee, Judge Hugh M. Morris Professor of Political Science and International Relations, on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in commemoration of Constitution Day.

The talk and discussion -- entitled "The Constitution: Living or Dead?" -- will be held at 7 p.m. in the Redding Residence Hall Lounge. Magee will explore how the Constitution has been interpreted as a "fixed" or "evolving" document through the lens of many of the day's most current issues.

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The program is sponsored by Residence Life and Housing, and refreshments will be provided.

Magee specializes in American Constitutional law and the U.S. Supreme Court, and he teaches courses in U.S. Constitutional law, judicial process and American politics. 

A member of the Delaware faculty since 1976, he has received the University's Excellence in Teaching Award three times and the Excellence in Advising and Mentoring Award twice. 

Author of Freedom of Expression and Mr. Justice Black, he is currently conducting research on the jurisprudence of Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia.

Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.
