Banned Book Read-Out set on the South Green

4:47 p.m., Sept. 12, 2014--The campus community is invited to join the University of Delaware Department of English for the Banned Book Read-out, scheduled from 11a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, on the South Green, adjacent to the Morris Library and Memorial Hall.

Banned Books Week, Sept. 21-27, is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and draws national attention to the danger of censorship.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Individuals who are passionate about the right to read without restriction are encouraged to sign up for a time slot to read a selection from a favorite banned or challenged book. Slots are available from 12:05 p.m. until 4 p.m., Sept. 24.

Banned Books Week, which highlights works that have been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools, celebrates the fact that many of these books have remained available thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, students and community members who stand up and speak out for the freedom to read.
