6:01 p.m., Oct. 22, 2014--The University of Delaware strategic plan working group on Models for the New American Research University has scheduled a series of town halls this month and next. This working group has four sub-groups examining academic organization, curriculum and delivery, infrastructure and resource analysis.

The town halls are open meetings designed to help define and develop ideas for how UD can become a model of the new American research university:

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.
  • Thursday, Oct. 30: 3–4:30 p.m., 106 McDowell Hall;
  • Monday, Nov. 10: 5–6:30 p.m., 304 Gore Hall; and
  • Tuesday, Nov. 18: 10–11:30 a.m., 233A Purnell Hall.

According to working group co-chairs Kristi Kiick, deputy dean for engineering, and Matt Kinservik, vice provost for faculty affairs, the open town hall meetings may include discussion questions such as the following:

  • What does higher education look like in the future? What strengths should UD leverage to develop a distinctive curriculum that prepares students to be lifelong learners?
  • How might our academic and non-academic functions at UD be organized to most effectively achieve our mission?
  • What key advances in infrastructure would allow UD to be more effective in supporting our students, staff and faculty?
  • Who are UD’s partners of the future? In what innovative ways might we engage with these partners?
  • What distinguishes UD from other institutions? Of what should we be most proud?
  • If you were to name one hope or aspiration for UD, what would it be?
