Oct. 29: Mobility Challenge
North Green event to raise awareness about the impact of restricted mobility
9:50 a.m., Oct. 14, 2014--The Assistive Medical Technologies student organization and the GoBabyGo program at the University of Delaware are partnering to host the inaugural Mobility Challenge. Aimed at raising awareness about the impact of restricted movement, the event will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, on the North Green.
Custom-designed straps to restrict upper-body mobility will be available at the event for attendees to wear as they negotiate tasks including a baseball throw, tie dying, coloring, and 3D printing.

Additional offerings will include corn hole, tug of war, inflatables, and free food. Ride-on cars from the GoBabyGo program will also be available.
“This event will be a fun way for the community to gain firsthand appreciation of the central role movement plays in our daily lives,” says Cole Galloway, professor of physical therapy who directs the Pediatric Mobility Lab and Design Studio at UD’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus.
“Whether it’s an infant reaching for a toy, a preschooler running on the playground, or an adult walking with friends across campus, we hope to raise awareness of and joy in the human right of daily movement,” he adds.
In addition to the three-hour event, the organizers will challenge interested participants to wear the straps throughout the day as they carry out routine tasks.
