What is long-term care insurance?

Long-term care (LTC) insurance helps you manage the costs of long-term care and covers skilled, intermediate and custodial care in your home, an adult day care center, an assisted living facility or a nursing home. Long-term care support can include help getting dressed, eating, bathing or self-administering medication.  LTC insurance provides coverage for services when they are required for an extended period of time and are not associated with acute care or short-term illnesses

Eligibility

To apply for the program, you must submit your application to Genworth Life:

  • Active full-time employees under the age of 66 who are working 28.13 or more hours per week are eligible to apply with limited medical underwriting.
  • Full-time employees ages 66 through 69 and spouses/partners of full-time employees who under the age of 66 may apply with short-form application. The short-form application provides a quicker underwriting process. It contains a short health questionnaire. Based on the applicant’s answers, medical records may be requested, and in some instances, a 20- or 30-minute telephone interview may also be required. This is a limited time offer and will not be available each year with the same terms.
  • Full-time employees who are over age 69 and spouses/partners ages 66 through 79, may apply with full medical underwriting.
  • Part-time employees who are actively at work, working at least 18.75 hours per week may apply with full medical underwriting.
  • Family members of employees (who are not employees) can also apply for coverage if they are between the ages of 18 and 79. Eligible participants include spouses or partners, adult children, parents or in-laws, grandparents and siblings. Non-employee applicants will be asked to complete a health form and may be required to provide additional medical information to be considered for coverage.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens, have a valid Social Security number or tax identification number, and provide a U.S. mailing address.

Please note, this program is not available to Vermont residents.
