10:05 a.m., Oct. 17, 2014--The ice dance team of Anastasia Cannuscio and Colin McManus, the 2011 U.S. junior bronze medalists who train at the University of Delaware, won the bronze medal last week at the 2014 Finlandia Trophy competition in Espoo, Finland, as part of the of the 2014 International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series.

Cannuscio represents the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club while McManus represents the Skating Club of Boston. The skaters are coached by Karen Ludington, Alexandr Kirsanov and Christie Moxley-Hutson.

Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

In fourth place after the short dance at the Finlandia Trophy competition, Cannuscio and McManus rallied in the free skate to win bronze with 131.76 points. Their performance, set to Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saƫns' and Arthur Fiedler, and A Transylvanian Lullaby by Gil Shaham, featured eight elements, three of which earned a Level 4, the highest level awarded in figure skating. Their segment score of 82.48 points was the second-highest score of the event.

The gold medal went to Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin of Russia while the silver went to Nelli Zhiganshina and Alexander Gazsi of Germany.

Cannuscio and McManus are also scheduled to compete at Hilton HHonors Skate America, Oct. 24-26 in Chicago, as part of the 2014 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.
