UD alumni can take advantage of programs that feature dance, art, theatre

9:29 a.m., Oct. 31, 2014--Cultural activities featuring dance, art and theatre are on the calendar for University of Delaware alumni in November and December.

In Washington, D.C., alumni are invited to an evening of dance and performance art as Israel’s acclaimed Batsheva Dance Co. presents the contemporary dance piece Sadeh21 at the Kennedy Center on Tuesday evening, Nov. 18.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

In Richmond, alumni can take advantage of expert presentations and a tour of the exhibition “The Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing” at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Also, the New York City Alumni Club will host a trip to the Signature Theatre to see Our Lady of Kibeho by award-winning playwright Katori Hall on Tuesday night, Dec. 2. There will be drinks beforehand and a discussion following.

Thursday, Nov. 6, 5:30 p.m.: California happy hour. A Day of the Dead “Hen” happy hour and interest meeting will be held at El Agave Tequileria in Del Mar, California.

Thursday, Nov. 6, 5:30 p.m.: New Castle County happy hour. Alumni are invited to a New Castle County Alumni Club happy hour at Two Stones Pub Naamans.

Thursday, Nov. 6, 6 p.m.: South Florida happy hour. South Florida alumni will hold an interest meeting and happy hour at Fado Irish Pub in Miami.

Thursday, Nov. 6, 8-10 p.m.: New York City “night owl” bowling. Blue Hens will gather for “night owl” bowling at Frames Bowling Lounge above the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York’s Midtown.

Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m.: Kent and Sussex cooking class. Alumni are invited to a Kent and Sussex cooking class at the Big Fish Grill in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Sunday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m.: Pittsburgh brunch. Alumni in the Pittsburgh area are invited to brunch at the Grand Concourse.

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m.: Los Angeles happy hour. The Los Angeles Alumni Club will hold a happy hour at the Brickyard Pub in Hollywood.

Saturday, Nov. 15, 8:30 a.m.-noon: Philabundance “Battle of the Blue.” Blue Hens will take on Villanova University alumni in a “Battle of the Blue” food sorting contest at Philabundance on Galloway Street in Philadelphia.

Saturday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m.: Civil and environmental engineering beer and wine tasting. A beer and wine tasting for civil and environmental engineering alumni and friends will be held at State Line Liquors on Elkton Road.

Tuesday, Nov. 18, 5:30 p.m.: Art history lecture series. The Art History Graduate Student Lecture Series will continue with a presentation by Alan C. Braddock of the College of William and Mary on “From Nature to Ecology: The Emergency of Ecocritical Art History.”

Tuesday, Nov. 18, 6:45 p.m.: Batsheva Dance Co. at Kennedy Center. Alumni are invited to an evening of dance and performance art as the Batsheva Dance Co. performs at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Saturday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m.: Boston Cradles to Crayons. Boston area Blue Hens will be participating in a service activity at Cradles to Crayons.

Saturday, Nov. 22, noon: Virginia “Forbidden City” exhibition. At the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, alumni can enjoy expert presentations before touring the exhibition “The Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing.”

Tuesday, Dec. 2, 7-10 p.m.: “Our Lady of Kibeho” at New York’s Signature Theatre. The New York City Alumni Club will host a trip to the Signature Theatre to see Our Lady of Kibeho by award-winning playwright Katori Hall. There will be drinks beforehand and a discussion following.

Saturday, Dec. 6, 9-11:30 a.m.: Breakfast With Santa. Blue Hens of all ages are invited to the fifth annual Breakfast With Santa at UD’s Clayton Hall. The fun family event will include face painting, a buffet breakfast, arts and crafts, balloon animals and special guests.

Saturday, Dec. 6, 6 p.m.: Lancaster mystery dinner. Lancaster, Pennsylvania, area alumni are invited to The Murder in Toyland murder mystery dinner at Bube’s Brewery in Mt. Joy.

Saturday, Dec. 6, 6:45 p.m.: Baltimore Symphony of Lights. Alumni will meet at the Greene Turtle on McGaw Road in Columbia, Maryland, then tour the “Symphony of Lights,” a display of 70 animated and stationary light creations sponsored by Macy’s to raise funds for the Howard County General Hospital.

Sunday, Dec. 7, 9:30 a.m.: Miami Dolphins football. Blue Hens can join the South Florida Alumni Club for a Miami Dolphins game at Sun Life Park. The Dolphins will be facing the Baltimore Ravens and former UD quarterback Joe Flacco.

Sunday, Dec. 7, noon: Kent and Sussex dinner and a movie. Dinner and a movie, the Polar Express, will be held at the Salted Rim in Ocean View, Delaware. The restaurant is in a train car decorated for the holiday season.
