Strategic planning town hall

Working group to explore new American Research University

TEXT SIZE

5:34 p.m., Oct. 7, 2014--For the past century, the American Research University has been an engine for the production and dissemination of new knowledge, creative expression and economic activity.

Today, the pace of technological change, new demographic and funding trends, and a climate of skepticism about the value of a college degree all pose important challenges.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

How will UD respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by these and other factors?

The strategic planning working group exploring “Models for the New American Research University” will host the first of several town hall meetings to discuss these issues on Monday, Oct. 13, from 10 - 11:30 a.m., in 104 Gore Hall. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.

This working group, led by Kristi Kiick, deputy dean of engineering, and Matt Kinservik, vice provost for faculty affairs, is divided into four subgroups, each looking to define how UD can become a model of the New American Research University. The subgroups are focused on these areas: Academic Organization, Curriculum and Delivery, Infrastructure and Resource Analysis.
