"We're pleased to provide this program that gives members of our community the opportunity to learn more about the activities and procedures our officers follow every day, said UD Police Chief Patrick Ogden. "At the same time, this program is a great way for us to hear from the people we serve."
Early registration is recommended, since this fall's academy filled up quickly.
The academy will include both classroom and field instruction on the responsibilities facing UD Police officers. Attendees will learn about such issues as use of force, defensive tactics, special operations, criminal investigations, evidence gathering techniques and demonstrations by the SWAT Team and K-9 unit. Participants also will have an opportunity to ride along with an officer and engage in target practice.
The program is free, but attendance is limited to 15 and advance registration is required. To register, visit http://www.udel.edu/police/forms/trainingcpa.htm. Registrations forms will be reviewed, and those accepted will be required to complete a short application. Those not selected will be encouraged to apply for the next available session.
