UD's Holt, Sun named outstanding delegates at Model United Nations event

9:27 a.m., Nov. 13, 2014--Two University of Delaware students, Laura Holt and Rose Sun, were named recipients of Outstanding Delegate awards at the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference held recently in Philadelphia.

The students were part of the UD Model UN team that participated in the national competition, which included about 1,200 people from universities including host Penn, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Chicago and Georgetown.

National Medal of Science

President Barack Obama recently presented the National Medal of Science to University of Delaware alumnus Rakesh Jain.

Warren Award

Rosalind Johnson, assistant dean for student success in the NUCLEUS Program in UD's College of Arts and Sciences, was presented the John Warren Excellence in Leadership and Service Award during a May 26 ceremony.

Holt served on the event’s Dutch East India Company 1619 committee, portraying a chief medical officer named Dr. Groote Gerrit, and Sun served on the Entourage committee, with her character being Martin Scorsese.

Both committees were crisis committees in which work is exceptionally fast-paced, with new problems thrown at committee members every 30 minutes.

Holt is majoring in international relations with minors in public health, legal studies and Arabic. Sun is an Honors Program student majoring in political science and chemistry with a minor in art.
