University to host Delaware Law Issues Update conference

1:43 p.m., Nov. 7, 2014--Later this month the Delaware Law Issues Update will return to the University of Delaware for the second time. 

Presented by UD’s John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance and the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals, the conference will feature members of the Delaware bar and judiciary.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Six panels will address the audience during the two-day conference, which runs from Wednesday, Nov. 19, through Thursday, Nov. 20. These panels are composed of current and former members of the Delaware judiciary, members the Delaware bar (both plaintiff and defense counsel), corporate secretaries and institutional investors. 

This unique program focuses on recent developments in corporate law and related governance issues critical to board advisers. It is designed specifically for in-house practitioners and outside counsel, corporate secretaries, governance specialists, investors and consultants.

Among the topics discussed will be emerging issues related to shareholder activism, directors’ fiduciary duties in compensation decisions and other advice on how to properly advise boards in many situations.

Other highlights of the event include:

  • Luncheon address by Richard D. Parsons, senior adviser, Providence Equity Partners, former chairman and CEO of Time Warner and former chairman of Citigroup;
  • Brief comments from Jeffrey W. Bullock, Delaware secretary of state, during the Networking Reception; and
  • Interactive conversation with Leo E. Strine, Jr., chief justice of the Delaware Supreme Court, during the conference dinner.

A block of rooms has been reserved at Marriott's Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware for the nights of Tuesday, Nov. 18, and Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the rate of $134 per night.
