Outdoor 'Stars, Stripes and Sousa' event promises family fun
10:20 a.m., May 4, 2015--The University of Delaware Department of Music will hold an outdoor concert of Sousa marches at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 9, on the lawn between the Roselle Center for the Arts and the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. The event is free and open to the public.
“Stars, Stripes and Sousa” will feature the UD Wind Ensemble performing a full program of John Philip Sousa marches, conducted by Rodney Miller, acclaimed Sousa enthusiast. The concert is planned to be a fun, old-fashioned and patriotic family event.

Local veterans groups have been invited, and attending veterans will be honored during the performance.
Sousa marches are a Victorian tradition, and UD’s ensemble will revisit the roots of American band music, re-creating lively marches, played by shiny brass bands, capturing the spirit of America.
Limited bleacher seating will be available, and the audience is welcome to bring low lawn/beach chairs and blankets. Ice cream will be sold at the UDairy Creamery’s Moo Mobile.
In the case of rain, the event will move into the Roselle Center for the Arts building, with limited seating available in Puglisi Orchestra Hall. Parking is available in the adjacent garage.
The performance is cosponsored by the Department of Music and the UD Community Music School.
