Reviresco June run

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

“In the beginning, the dean would call a student into his office. The student, not knowing why they were there, would arrive in the dean’s office more than a little concerned. We would be there and hand them a check. Watching the student’s relief and then excitement was always a thrill,” said Pat Armstrong, chairman of the fund. “Now, through countless small donations, we have exceeded the $50,000 goal and the scholarship will live forever at UD.”

He and fellow members of the fund have been awarding annual scholarships since 2002. To establish an endowment that awards scholarships in perpetuity, a minimum a contribution of $50,000 was needed.

“Today we celebrate the collective effort of the many individuals who have given generously of their time, talent and treasure to create this scholarship,” said George Watson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “The scholarship will continue to be awarded to a well-rounded upperclassman with plans to attend law school after graduation — just like Ricky.”

This year’s recipient, Logan Hayes, is a senior from Abington, Maryland, majoring in international relations with a minor in legal studies.

Barbour was a wrestler at UD and a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences. He went on to become a prosecutor with a deep commitment to justice until his life was cut short in 1991 when he was killed in an armed robbery.
