Mancini, a Pennsylvania nurse, was charged in 2013 with aiding the attempted suicide of her dying 93-year-old father after handing him his bottle of prescribed morphine. He was later found unresponsive and, although he had written advanced directives, he was taken to a hospital, treated and revived. He died four days later.
Mancini was prosecuted, and her case was covered widely in the media, including on 60 Minutes. A judge dismissed the charges against her in 2014, and since then, she has traveled around the country as an advocate for end-of-life choice.
Also on the May 6 panel will be Dr. John Goodill, the chief of Christiana Care’s Pain and Palliative Care Section, and Richard Hanley, associate professor of philosophy at UD. Fred Schueler, professor of philosophy, will moderate the discussion.
“Death With Dignity” is co-sponsored by the Department of Philosophy and the office of Delaware state Rep. Paul Baumbach, who represents Newark.
