Eight presented highest grade point index awards during Commencement

4:46 p.m., May 30, 2015--Eight graduating University of Delaware seniors achieved the highest grade point index earned in full-time study toward a University degree and were recognized during Commencement ceremonies held Saturday, May 30, in Delaware Stadium.

To be eligible, a graduating senior must have earned at least 75 percent of the total credits required for the degree at the University of Delaware and must have averaged a minimum of 15 credits per semester.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Recognized at Commencement by Provost Domenico Grasso were:

Hannah Jean Anderson, of Newark, Delaware, who received an honors bachelor of arts degree in biological sciences. She will attend medical school at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Caroline Virginia Cameron, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, who received a bachelor of science degree in human services with a minor in psychology. She will continue her studies, working toward a master’s degree in occupational therapy at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Ryan Dayton, of Chesapeake City, Maryland, who received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He will work in the family business and plans to enroll in a master of business administration program in the future.

Michael David Hession, of Staten Island, New York, who received an honors bachelor of arts degree in communication. He will work as a banking book portfolio management analyst for Citigroup’s Tribeca office in Manhattan.

Megan Elizabeth Johnson, of Bear, Delaware, who received an honors bachelor of science degree in exercise science and had three minors, in disabilities studies, medical humanities, and health, physical activity and disability. She will continue her studies at UD, where she is enrolled in the doctor of physical therapy program.

Albert Y.H. Lo, of Hockessin, Delaware, who received a bachelor of science degree in psychology. He will continue his studies in the clinical psychology doctoral program at the University of Massachusetts.

Nichole Comis Schneider, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, who received an honors bachelor of arts degree in sociology. She will continue her studies at the University of Pittsburgh, where she is enrolled in a master’s degree program in social work.

Melissa Leigh Sterner, of Wilmington, Delaware, who received a bachelor of arts degree in foreign languages and literatures. She will continue her studies in the master’s degree program for German translation at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California.
