Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

DeWalt, who earned his bachelor's degree in computer science from UD in 1986, is chief executive officer and chairman of the board of FireEye Inc. He joined FireEye, a leading cybersecurity company, as board chairman in June 2012 and was appointed chief executive officer in November 2012. In 2009, he was named one of the 25 most influential executives in high technology by the readers of the industry publication CRN.

The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, is held rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony may be shortened.

On May 30, gates will open at 7 a.m., and guests should plan to arrive no later than 7:30 a.m. Seating for guests is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

All graduates participating in the ceremony should arrive by 7 a.m. and should proceed immediately to the procession line-up area next to the Delaware Field House, just north of Delaware Stadium.  Only degree candidates wearing academic regalia will be allowed in the line-up area. Procession into Delaware Stadium will begin promptly at 8 a.m.

For those unable to attend the ceremony, it will be webcast live at http://www.udel.edu/udlive.
