UD-IT offers Self Service UD Capture, other online resources to help faculty

TEXT SIZE

4:21 p.m., March 9, 2015--Recent winter weather events have canceled University of Delaware classes and created travel difficulties for students and faculty members alike. As a result, some faculty may need to present material from a “lost” class session to their students.

UD Information Technologies (IT) reminds faculty that UD offers online resources to help instructors communicate with their students, archive resources for students and provide additional instructional material to students.

2FA protects you

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

Faculty can consult IT’s technology options for course continuity webpage for information about Sakai@UD, Canvas, PO Box, UD Dropbox, Google Apps, UD Capture and other tools that may facilitate communication.

Faculty members will find the Self Service UD Capture Studios to be particularly helpful in presenting missed material to students. The studios, located in 309 Gore Hall and 208 Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory (ISE Lab), are equipped with a recording station, microphone, and a video connection for a laptop computer. Optionally, a document camera in the studio can be used to record hand-written notes or annotations made on a printed document.

Faculty members can reserve either of the studios, find out how to obtain a key to the room, and view a quick start guide at the Self Service UD Capture webpage

Faculty should evaluate all of these tools to see which will best match their teaching needs during a regular semester and which may help maintain continuity during unusual circumstances.

Faculty who would like additional assistance using these technologies can contact the IT Support Center by submitting a Help Request Form, calling 302-831-6000 or emailing consult@udel.edu, or can visit Faculty Commons, 116 Pearson Hall.
