10:53 a.m., March 4, 2015--The University of Delaware Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) is collaborating with 12 different UD departments, offices and outside organizations to offer more than 50 programs for students and scholars this semester.

One of signature programs of OISS, the International Coffee Hour, takes place every Friday throughout the academic year from 4-6 p.m. at the Wright House, 44 Kent Way. This weekly event offers domestic and international students, scholars, faculty and staff the opportunity to engage with and learn from one another. A special attendee is highlighted each week in “Friends of OISS” on OISS social media.

Global Stories

Fulbright awards

Three University of Delaware students and an alumna have received word this spring that they will travel abroad as part of the newest class of Fulbright Student Program award winners.

Peace Corps plans

Two University of Delaware students, John McCarron and Bridgette Spritz, have been selected as Peace Corps volunteers and will serve in Ghana and Rwanda.

The first coffee hour of the season launched on Friday, Feb. 13, with live Iranian music played by three international doctoral students. This spring, nine of these signature programs will be sponsored by community partners, including The Retreat at Newark, Healthy Hens, UD Recreation, Nurse Managed Health Center, the International Caucus, the Institute for Global Studies, Student Wellness and Health Promotion, Career Services Center and Bed Bath and Beyond. While all will offer coffee, tea and treats, some will feature live music, activities, chances to win prizes, and celebrations of special events and holidays.

In addition, University Student Centers and OISS are partnering on two all-day trips this spring to New York City on March 7 and to Washington, D.C., on April 18. Both excursions are open to undergraduate and graduate students.

The Center for Counseling and Student Development is offering a discussion series for international students to engage in dialogue about adjusting to life at UD, and relationships with friends, significant others, faculty, and colleagues.

The Career Services Center recently presented a workshop on how to prepare a resume, and will present a second workshop on March 5 offering tips for landing a job in the U.S.

OISS is also working with the Office of Academic Enrichment to promote workshops on academic success to the international student community at UD.
