Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

"We are confident that Coach Ross has the passion and drive to build on the momentum of the past two years and to help our student-athletes become leaders in the game, in the campus community and in their lives going forward," UD President Patrick Harker said.

Earlier this month, Ross concluded his ninth season as head coach at Delaware, when the Blue Hens lost to eventual champion Northeastern in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) quarterfinals, falling just short of making a third consecutive appearance in the conference tournament semifinals.

In 2013-14, he led the Blue Hens to one of the best seasons in University history, finishing with a 25-10 record that tied for the second most wins in a season in school history. The team won its first 11 regular season conference games en route to the program’s first CAA regular season title. Delaware then won three straight contests in the CAA championship tournament in Baltimore to claim the fifth conference tournament title in school history. Ross has a career record of 125-161 at Delaware.

Last year Ross was named the CAA Coach of the Year, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Clarence (Big House) Gaines Division I Coach of the Year and the National Association of Basketball Coaches UPS District 10 Coach of the Year.

Before coming to Delaware in 2006, Ross was assistant coach at St. Joseph's University for 10 years and an assistant at Drexel University. He is a 1992 graduate of Winston Salem (North Carolina) State University.
