Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

“The entire team did an incredible job this weekend,” Beth Kalbach, UDFS secretary, said. “Every single one of our skaters who stepped onto the ice earned points towards our team total, which is a huge accomplishment, as well as a testament to our training and preparation.”

Hannah Kimberly, UDFS president, said she loved watching the team members support each other so well. “I saw so many selfless acts this weekend in which our team members did what they needed to do in order to help their teammates that were about to compete or were in need of something,” Kimberly said. “This really exemplifies what collegiate skating is all about to me -- having a family away from home that is there to support you in any way they can.”

Laura Gettier, the social chair for the team, said there is always room for improvement. “As the semester kicks in to full swing, I think we just need to make sure we’re still working hard and making skating a top priority.”

UDFS will compete again March 21-22 when the team hosts the University of Delaware Intercollegiate Competition at the Fred Rust Ice Arena on South Campus.

“Our home competition is my favorite every year,” Kalbach said, “There is something so special about being able to compete in the comfort of where we train every single day, surrounded by friends, family, coaches and teammates.”
