The seminars, featuring UD alumni, will be held at 10 a.m. on select Fridays through the spring semester in 102 Colburn Laboratory, unless otherwise specified.

Research Stories

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

The series will feature alumni, and the speakers are as follows:

March 5 – Ajit Sapre of Reliance Industries Ltd., who received a doctorate from UD in 1980, will speak on “Energy and Materials Challenges for a Growing World: One Perspective.” This seminar will be held at 10 a.m. in 106 Composite Manufacturing Science Laboratory.

March 6 – Kostas Tokatlidis of the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, who received a doctorate from UD in 1993, will speak on “Protein Targeting and Oxidative Folding in Mitochondria.”

March 20 – Richard Lunt of Michigan State University, who received an honors bachelor’s degree from UD in 2004, will speak on “Unique Opportunities for Excitonic Photovoltaics and Solar Concentrators or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Exciton.”

April 10 – Radhakrishnan Mahadevan of the University of Toronto, who received a doctorate from UD in 2002, will speak on “Model-Based Strategies for Improving Bioprocess Yield, Productivity and Robustness.”

April 17 – Peter Kirlin of Photronics Inc., who received a doctorate from UD in 1986, will speak on “How to Succeed in Business ‘with an Advanced Technical Degree’ by Really Trying.”

April 24 – Jennifer Reed of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, will speak on “Application of Systems Biology to Engineering Cellular Metabolism.”

May 8 – Zhenan Bao of Stanford University will speak on “Integrated Materials Design of Organic Semiconductors and Their Applications in Skin-Inspired Electronics.”
