Art department to host Black Maria Film Festival event

9:31 a.m., March 6, 2015--The University of Delaware Department of Art will host the 34th annual Black Maria Film Festival in a special screening event from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, in 130 Smith Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The screening will be presented by Jane Steuerwald, director of the festival.

Since 1981, the annual Black Maria Film Festival, an international juried competition and award tour, has been fulfilling its mission to advocate, exhibit and reward cutting edge works from independent moving image makers. 

The festival is known for its national public exhibition program, which features a variety of bold contemporary works drawn from the annual collection of award winning films and videos.

  • In Port by Catherine Axley (11 minutes)
  • SoundPrint by Monteith McCollum (8 minutes)
  • Egghead by Patrick Longstreth (1 minutes)
  • Swallowed Whole by Heidi Kumao (4 minutes)
  • Ideas That Are Grand (Así de Grandes son las Ideas) by Jose Enrique Rivera Rivera, (5 minutes)
  • The Stick Maker by Curtis Albucher (4 minutes)
  • Lightning In The Hand by Joey Grossfield (15 minutes)
  • Where We Stand by Lindsay McIntyre (5 minutes)
  • Self Portrait Portrait by James Hollenbaugh (6 minutes)
  • The Ballad of Holland Island House by Lynn Tomlinson (4 minutes)
