1:23 p.m., June 24, 2015--Newark Police have reported an early morning burglary that occurred on Wednesday, June 24, on East Park Place.

Police said that at approximately 4:30 a.m., Wednesday, a 22-year-old man was awoken when one of two suspects opened the door of his second-floor bedroom.

He told police that the suspect seemed startled that anyone was in the house and immediately fled with his accomplice. The suspects were last seen fleeing on foot eastbound on East Park Place.

The victim attempted to call 911 on his cell phone but was unable to get a signal and walked to the University of Delaware Police offices a short distance away on Academy Street.

A University Police K9 officer responded with Newark officers to check the area but nothing was found.

An examination of the scene found that the suspects entered the residence through an unlocked basement window. Once inside they gathered items to steal and set them near the door. Newark detectives are working to determine if anything was taken.

The suspect who opened the bedroom door is described as a black male, about 6-feet 1-inch to 6-feet 3-inches tall. The victim was unable to describe the second suspect.

Residents are reminded to lock all doors and windows.
