Parking Services begins registering vehicles in license plate recognition pilot program
9:06 a.m., Jan. 20, 2015--In preparation for a license plate recognition (LPR) pilot program on campus, University of Delaware Parking Services is asking all permit holders to register their vehicles.
Customers can self-register their vehicles or attach a vehicle to their current permit by going to this website. Though only one vehicle per permit can park on campus at a time, each permit can have up to five vehicles assigned to it.

The pilot program, expected to start in mid-February, is designed to benefit customers by not requiring permits, enabling the use of multi-year parking privileges, and providing more complete data to aid policy decisions.
Forgetting to hang a permit in a vehicle or switch it to another vehicle would be a thing of the past, officials said, resulting in fewer tickets to valid permit holders.
Cameras mounted on vehicles will enable Parking Services staff members to drive through parking lots instead of walking, keeping them out of extreme weather conditions.
The system will create a list of vehicles and the officer will be able to check only the unregistered vehicles instead of checking every vehicle in the lot.
Parking Services asks that permit holders update their vehicle information by Monday, Feb. 9. Questions about the pilot program or about registering vehicles on-campus can be sent to parking@udel.edu.
