In order to be eligible, 4-H’ers must be 14 to 19 years of age and submit a state 4-H record book that chronicles the scope of their leadership, community service and project work acquired through their years of involvement as a Delaware 4-H member.

Reviresco June run

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

The state’s delegates joined approximately 1,000 other delegates from the U.S. and its territories at the congress, which was held in Atlanta.

Delegates participated in leadership development workshops and engaged in a hands-on, service-learning experience.

Delegates met other 4-H members and exchanged best practices from their states on how 4-H Youth Development is implemented.

The state delegates, by county, are as follows:

New Castle County

Madeline Watson, 17, is a member of the Flock of Friends 4-H Club in Newark. She is has been an active 4-H member for the past 11 years, primarily with the sheep project. Watson has shown sheep for several years at local county 4-H shows and the Delaware State Fair. She is serving as the New Castle County representative for the Delaware 4-H State Teen Council and also on the Delaware Junior Fair Board. Watson lives in Newark with her parents, Kathy and Tim, and her brother Sam. She is a senior at Padua Academy, where she is a varsity cheerleader.

Colleen Murray, 17, is a three-year member of the New Castle County Camp Counselors Club. She is serving as the president of her club. Murray has served as a camp counselor for several summers and enjoys working in her 4-H leadership project. To complement her leadership project, Murray spends countless hours volunteering with her church and serves as the liaison for the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund. She also volunteers as a youth coach for the Mason Dixon volleyball team. She has also spent the past two summers interning with the College of Engineering at the University of Delaware. Murray lives in Newark with her parents, Ed and Krista, and her sister Shannon. She is a senior at Padua Academy and plans to study mechanical engineering in the fall.

Kent County:

Abigail (Abby) Harrington, 16, is an eight-year member of the Dover Clovers 4-H Club in Dover. The foods and nutrition area has been Harrington’s primary focus with her 4-H project work. She has worked with yeast in making bread, meal proportions, safe food handling, menu planning and learned how to make many food dishes while working in this 4-H project. She also used her leadership skills in working with younger members of her club in this project. Harrington has also explored other 4-H project areas of photography, sewing and child development. She has served in most all leadership positions for her local club while also serving as a 4-H summer day camp counselor, Junior Leader for the county 4-H Science Club, and Health Rocks instructor, and has participated on many committees at the county level. Harrington has indicated that working with youth and providing educational and fun activities at summer 4-H day camps is one of the best experiences she has had while in 4-H. Harrington attends Caesar Rodney High School and is in the 10th grade. She is the daughter of Jill Harrington.

Sussex County

Colleen Anderson, 16, of Milton, is an 8-year member of the Hollymount 4-H Club. She is a sophomore at Sussex Tech High School.  While Anderson has taken on many projects, her strengths have been in photography, goats, leadership and citizenship. When asked to write about her most memorable 4-H experience, it was hard for her to choose just one. She credits showing dairy and swine and doing a poultry project for helping make her goat project a success. Her most memorable experience was more of an emotion that she has felt several times throughout her 4-H career. She said she believes this is why 4-H is so valuable to her, as she is allowed to have a sense of triumph and achievement, after all her hard work, with anything she does in 4-H. Anderson has been active in almost everything that 4-H does in Sussex County. In addition, she has been very involved in school and community-based projects. Her parents are Paul and Sharon Anderson. She has one brother and one sister, both of whom have been very active in 4-H.

Nathaniel Vincent, 16, is a junior at Delmar High School. He is an eight-year member of the Rossakatum 4-H Club. Vincent has had a wide variety of project experiences in 4-H, including plant science, food and nutrition, swine, photography and more. With his many project areas, he is able to display his talents and exhibits all at one place, making the State Fair the most memorable collection of his 4-H experiences. Many generations of the Vincent family have been involved with 4-H and animals, so Vincent says showing livestock is always a highlight of his year. He also enjoys time spent in the 4-H building, whether entering and displaying exhibits or participating in state judging contests and demonstrations, the 4-H building is a special place to be. The relationships he has built at the Fair with 4-H members across the state are also very important to him. Vincent’s parents are Raymond and Teresa Vincent and Charity Phillips. He has three older brothers who were all active Sussex County 4-H’ers.
