Wilken to present lecture on 'Christian Roots of Religious Freedom'
9:04 a.m., Feb. 27, 2015--Robert Louis Wilken will discuss “The Christian Roots of Religious Freedom” during a presentation at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, in 115 Purnell Hall on the University of Delaware campus in Newark.
Wilken will trace the history of religious freedom and show how early and Medieval thinkers provided the tools for Christians in the early modern period to formulate a full doctrine of religious freedom and liberty of conscience.

Wilken is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor Emeritus of the History of Christianity at the University of Virginia and past president of both the American Academy of Religion and the North American Patristic Society. He is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the author of many acclaimed scholarly books on early Christianity.
The free public lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
The presentation is sponsored by the Society of Catholic Scholars of Delaware, the UD Catholic Campus Ministry, the Lutheran Student Association and Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship.
