Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

“We’re really excited about the entire program we’ve put together,” he adds, “but I think one of the most innovative events is the Healthcare Hackathon, an ‘all-nighter’ that will challenge teams of students to develop high-level, creative proposals to address real issues related to health, health care, and health policy in the U.S.”

Since 1995, the American Public Health Association has brought together communities across the U.S. to observe National Public Health Week during the first full week in April. This year’s theme, “Healthiest Nation 2030,” focuses on what it will take to become the healthiest nation in one generation.

“This is a tremendous challenge given some of the public health issues we are grappling with as a nation such as obesity, vaccinations, gun violence, mental health, and health care reform,” says Mia Papas, assistant professor in the Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition.

“National Public Health Week will offer many opportunities for students, faculty, community members, political leaders, civic associations and others to come together to discuss ideas for how Delaware and the United States can truly become the Healthiest Nation 2030.”

Events at UD include:

  • Monday, April 6 (12:20-1:10 p.m.): Research seminar by Dan Webster, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research; hosted by Mia Papas.
