Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

At the end of the weekend, UDFS earned 128 total team points for this competition, securing them the win. Dartmouth College came in second place with 106 points while Boston University earned the bronze medal with 88 points.

Hannah Kimberly, UDFS team president, said that winning the first competition of the season was incredible.

“I really didn’t know what to expect going into this weekend since we have such a new team and we never know what kind of teams the other schools are going to have,” Kimberly said. “However, watching all of our skaters own the ice and skate so well made me so proud to be a part of this team, winning was really just icing on the cake of a fantastic weekend.”

Freshman team member Mallory Metzner commented that this competition experience was the best she’s ever had. “I learned so much from my teammates about how they compete and I also found more confidence in my own skating with the whole team behind me to cheer me on,” Metzner said. “Because my team and my coach believed in me, I ended up believing in myself as well.”

“All of the skaters skated really well,” Kimberly said. “However there were still a lot of points that were left on the table at this competition. There was a lot of room for improvement and I know that, as a team, we will continue to work hard and improve as the season progresses.”

The intercollegiate figure skating season continues Feb. 28-March 1, when UDFS will travel to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete.
