1:02 p.m., Feb. 9, 2015--The University of Delaware has announced a new design for the institution’s diploma, one that reflects UD’s colonial heritage and that will serve as a distinctive symbol of the high quality of both the degree and the education it represents.

The new diploma features a refreshed classical layout that calls to mind the proud tradition of excellence of the University, which traces its roots to a small private academy founded in 1743 by the Rev. Francis Alison that produced three signers of the Declaration of Independence and one signer of the U.S. Constitution.

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

“We are pleased to unveil the new diploma as a beautiful document reflecting both the distinguished history of the University of Delaware and the outstanding work of its graduates,” said Provost Domenico Grasso.

The new diploma takes effect with degrees being conferred in the 2014-15 academic year, beginning with the fall 2014 degree conferral period.

The document is of the same size and dimensions as the previous diploma, measuring 16 inches by 12 inches and consistent with the diploma policy set forth by the University’s Board of Trustees it will continue to include the degree type.

All new and replacement diplomas will be in the new design, and replacement diplomas can be ordered through this website.
