Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

In recognition of this work, UD recently was selected to receive the Community Engagement classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Don Harward, senior fellow and director of the Bringing Theory to Practice Project of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), will be the guest speaker. Harward, a former faculty member in the philosophy department at UD, designed and led the University’s Honors Program.

Harward later went on to serve as the sixth president of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, from 1989 to 2002 before retiring as president emeritus. During his tenure at Bates, Harward worked to integrate the university into the Lewiston community. In 2005, Lewiston opened the Harward Center for Community Partnerships in recognition of his efforts.

Also highlighting the event will be 20 exhibits of mutually beneficial University – community partnerships.

UD works with community partners on local to international levels and 375 community projects with 300 unique community partners were identified in UD’s application for the Community Engagement classification.

University faculty, staff and students and UD’s community partners are invited and encouraged to attend. Those who plan to attend are asked to register online by March 1.
