Christine Payne, a 1998 University of Delaware graduate with a degree in English, is one of 10 winners of the 2014 "I Love My Librarian" Award, a collaboration of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, The New York Times and the American Library Association. Payne, a librarian at Appoquinimink High School in Middletown, Delaware, was nominated for the award by a student who praised her dedication to literacy and her many roles, "from club adviser to personal mentor, from editor to inspiration." Payne has worked as a librarian in the district's elementary, middle and high schools, the student wrote, and in each case, "The library became the heart of the school." The award program encourages library users to recognize the accomplishments of exceptional librarians in public libraries, K-12 schools and colleges and universities. This year, the 10 winners were selected from nominations made by more than 1,000 library patrons.
