Eastern Evaluation Research Society invites conference submissions

TEXT SIZE

8:39 a.m., Dec. 8, 2014--The Eastern Evaluation Research Society invites submissions for individual presentations, skill-building sessions, panel and Ignite presentations for its annual conference to be held April 26-28, 2015, at Seaview Resort and Spa, Absecon, New Jersey.

The year theme for the 38th annual conference is “Let’s Get Real: Evaluation Challenges and Solutions.” It offers an opportunity for professional evaluators, academics, students and consumers to discuss strategies to overcome or mitigate evaluation challenges.

Research Stories

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, Dec. 12. Presenters will be notified about their acceptance in late January 2015.

The call for proposals is open to anyone involved in program evaluation: professionals, faculty, graduate and undergrad students. All are encouraged to participate, said Cheryl M. Ackerman, director of evaluation for Delaware INBRE and EPSCoR and EERS program co-chair.

Among the suggested topics for presenters are: conducting an evaluation of a moving target; navigating midstream changes to an evaluation’s scope or purpose; staying in touch with vulnerable populations in longitudinal studies; and conducting a solid evaluation when timeliness is a factor.

2015 has been designated “The International Year of Evaluation.” The goal is to advocate and promote evaluation and evidence-based policy making at international, regional, national and local levels. Proposals that align with this initiative are especially welcome.

The Ignite-style presentation is new to the conference. It offers presenters five minutes of time with a total of 20 slides, each advancing automatically after 15 seconds. The idea is to ignite thought and awareness on the topic in a nontraditional way.

There are two opportunities for student presentations. The top student papers on evaluation methods and/or findings will be selected for a presentation that will be integrated in the program sessions with professional evaluators. There also will be a special student poster session during the main reception.

For graduate and undergraduate students, presenting at the EERS conference offers a chance to meet top evaluation experts. In addition, up to three top proposals will be chosen to present during the regular conference program and these students will be awarded a $400 stipend. Additional presentations chosen for the student poster session will receive a $100 stipend. Students chosen to present also will have the $85 conference registration fee waived.

Undergraduate and graduate students who want to be considered for presentations must be enrolled in at least two courses per semester for the 2014-15 academic year. Visit the EERS website for information about submitting a student presentation proposal.

Questions about the submission process can be directed to Ackerman at cma@udel.edu or 302-831-8585.
