Editor's note: 9:40 a.m., Sept. 26, 2014--A limited number of tickets are still available for this year's Taste of Newark. Tickets will be on sale at the event at $60 each.

3 p.m., Aug. 5, 2014--The 11th annual Taste of Newark food festival will be held from noon-3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, on the lawn of the University of Delaware’s Old College in Newark.

Tickets are $50 each if purchased before the event or $70 at the door. Tickets are limited and it is expected they will sell out quickly.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Taste of Newark guests can enjoy the culinary delights of nearly 50 Newark restaurants accompanied by the wares of the finest area wine distributors.

In addition, there will be celebrity cooking demonstrations and a “battle of the chefs” competition. Competing this year are Donny Merrill of Skipjack, Matt McKay of the Newark Country Club, and Ben MacGuiness and Robbie Jester of 16 Mile Taphouse, and their work be judged by a panel of local celebrity judges.

Also on hand will be guest chef Tom Hannum, owner of Buckley's Tavern and former executive chef at the Hotel du Pont who has trained at such restaurants as Le Bec Fin, with Georges Perrier, and the Ente Vom Lehel, with Hans Peter Wodarz, in the Hotel Nassauer Hof in Wiesbaden, Germany.

The event, organized by the Downtown Newark Partnership and the University of Delaware Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, is co-chaired by Newark Mayor Polly Sierer and former mayor Vance Funk.

The rain location is Clayton Hall.
